Guardians of York - Urban Arts Project, York - April 2021

The Postman Art - Guardians of York

We’re so excited to show you the outcome of our Guardians of York urban art project. With the help of 11 incredible key workers local to York, we produced a series of artworks celebrating those who helped keep the country afloat during the pandemic.

We came together with Art of Protest Projects (AOP) and The York BID (Business Improvement District) and totally fell in love with this project. “As the project built momentum, we realised more and more how important it was to tell the stories of the people behind the masks. The key workers that have carried us through the last year, inspired us and made a difference to everybody’s lives.”

What started off as an idea and turned into a project has now become a true movement and we could not be more proud of the end result. Dotted around York you will see our heroes larger than life, in all their glory, taking up the space they deserve on the city walls. We have created an interactive MAP to help you find them. If you stroll down to the Coppergate Centre you will see our central Guardians hub: an installation spot that showcases all of the heroes in one place.

Shoutout to Adam Johnson for the amazing images of all the walls!!
