MY CHARITY UNIVERSITY HOSPITALS SUSSEX 2025 (Press Release)

European Business Magazine The Postman

My Charity University Hospitals Sussex, the dedicated charity supporting seven hospitals, clinics, minor injury units and urgent treatment centres across Sussex, has announced a partnership with local Brighton street artists The Postman. The artists have been chosen to create, with their own unique style, a wraparound series of predominately new work stretching around the construction of the multi-million-pound Cancer Centre that is currently being built on Eastern Road. The work is due to be unveiled this autumn and eventually will be auctioned off piece by piece for the charity.

QUOTE - THE POSTMAN
'This commission is one of our most exciting and ambitious projects to date. We’re creating our largest mural ever—over 50 individual panels spanning approximately 60 metres of original, large-scale artwork. It’s an honour to contribute to such a forward-thinking initiative. As Brighton develops its New Sussex Cancer Centre (NSCC) as part of the Royal Sussex Hospital, there’s a clear focus on creating not just a cutting-edge medical facility, but a healing environment—filled with light, colour, and creativity. With the NSCC scheduled for completion in 2029, the decision to transform the hoardings into uplifting artwork shows real vision and a commitment to supporting the community from the very beginning. This project presents an exciting creative shift for us—moving away from our usual icon-based work to a nature-inspired theme we’ve been gradually exploring over the past few years. We believe art has the power to positively impact
mental wellbeing, and by focusing on colour, joy, and emotional connection, we hope this mural brings a moment of uplift and positivity to everyone who passes by. Beyond the artwork itself, this project offers exciting fundraising potential. Limited edition prints and merchandise will give people the opportunity to own a piece of the mural while directly supporting the charity. Select sections of the mural are also planned to be auctioned at a later stage, raising additional funds to further the charity’s impact. This marks the beginning of what we hope will be a long-term creative collaboration with My University Hospitals Sussex Charity—with many more ideas already in the pipeline' THE POSTMAN

QUOTE - STEVE CRUMP OBE
‘At My Charity we're delighted to be working with The Postman on this once in a lifetime venture that will see their iconic art used to both transform space and raise vital funds for University Hospitals Sussex.’ STEVE CRUMP OBE, Director, Charities & Voluntary Services – My Charity, University Hospitals Sussex, NHS Foundation Trust

Formed in April 2023, My Charity operates in - Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton
Worthing Hospital, St Richards, Chichester Princess Royal, Sussex Eye Hospital and
Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital. Every year they fundraise to support care for up to 2
million people across Sussex by transforming patient experience and care, staff wellbeing, sustainability, research and innovation.  My Charity is transforming healthcare bringing in cutting-edge technology, improved patient experiences, and vital support to Sussex University Hospitals.

In 2024, My Charity funded seven Savi Scout consoles for breast cancer surgery, making
diagnosis more comfortable and efficient for 250,000 women across Sussex. Helping
expectant mothers at Royal Sussex County Hospital with a new birthing pool, giving more
women the option of a water birth. And at Princess Royal Hospital, Trans-nasal
Endoscopes mean quicker, more comfortable gastroscopy appointments, reducing waiting lists. They provided £1.75 million for the Da Vinci Xi Robot Arm. This incredible technology means more precise surgery, quicker recovery times, less blood loss, and earlier discharge for patients. They have also created essential wellbeing spaces for the incredible hospital staff, boosting their mental and physical health.

My Charity is a proud partner in the New Sussex Cancer Centre, opening in 2029. This state- of-the-art facility will be nearly five times larger than the current one, revolutionizing cancer care for 2.2 million people in Sussex by bringing all vital services under one roof. The charity is dedicated to equipping Sussex hospitals with the best resources, ensuring every patient
receives outstanding care, and every staff member feels supported.

Hailing from Brighton, UK, THE POSTMAN is a street artist duo whose striking pop-art
murals have left their mark on cities around the world. With roots in photography and street art, they’ve developed a distinctive visual style—an eclectic fusion of techniques blending iconic imagery with abstract elements created using spray paint, stencils, and collage. Their primary medium for street art is paste-ups and wheat paste prints, often hand-finished with spray paint for added texture and vibrancy. Working anonymously, THE POSTMAN believe the focus should remain on the art rather than the artists. This choice keeps the spotlight on the work itself while adding a sense of intrigue and curiosity.

THE POSTMAN’s mission is to beautify urban spaces with bold colours and a feel-good energy. By celebrating cultural icons from across music, film, fashion and beyond, their work invites inclusivity and resonates with a broad and diverse audience.

Since launching in 2018, THE POSTMAN has built an impressive portfolio—producing public artworks for councils, commissions for figures such as Noel Gallagher and the Bob Marley Foundation, and collaborations with renowned photographers including Adrian Boot, David LaChapelle, and Dave Hogan. Their work has been exhibited in galleries worldwide, including the Saatchi Gallery in London, and featured in major media outlets such as the BBC and LA Weekly. With a devoted fanbase, THE POSTMAN continues to evolve creatively—most recently developing a new body of animal-inspired work exploring themes of nature, reflection, and the concept of "rewilding."

Alongside their mural commission at Brighton’s Royal Sussex Hospital, THE POSTMAN has a busy summer ahead. From 27th–31st August, they’ll be taking over Brighton’s most
exciting new venue—The British Engineerium—for a large-scale art show presented by
Pepita Coffee and Fatboy Slim. The exhibition will showcase an exclusive collection of new works and celebrate the launch of a brand-new range of coffee tins designed by THE POSTMAN. The official signing free event with Fatboy Slim takes place on 27th August at 6pm.
